Adult Programs

The Three Generation Organic Cooking and Farming Academy is unlike any other cooking school in Thailand. We do not teach the typical tourist fare but focus on seasonal, organic, and local Thai specialties that have been handed down for generations.

By conducting classes using traditional Thai farming and cooking methods, we embody sustainability and promote cultural awareness and preservation.
  • Our four-day immersion classes offer hands-on lessons designed to improve your cooking skills and allow you to explore deeper into the culture than you ever thought possible
  • Our one-day classes allow you to sample a little taste of Organic Thailand, and can be customized to suit your needs
Our recipes highlight fresh produce from our five-acre organic farm. You will gather fresh, organic produce from the Farm prior to cooking. All other ingredients are hand-selected from the local market by you or our chefs to guarantee quality and freshness.

Class discussions and interaction are relaxed and friendly and are held at the Academy’s open-air cooking pavilion on the Three Generation Community for Learning campus.

As classes are small and intimate, you will be able to share your experiences with the instructors and work more closely with them to master your skills and learn a wide array of appetizers, soups, salads, main dishes, desserts and much more that will easily become family favourites.

Four-Day Immersions

The rows of lush green vegetables at the five-acre farm of the Three Generation Cooking and Farming Academy are surrounded by banana, lime and tamarind trees intermingled with bamboo. This vast "suan-khroa" or "garden-kitchen" is the heart of our four-day immersion classes on Thai cooking, farming and culture.

Like in most traditional Thai homes, our "suan-khroa" provides seasonal vegetables and Thai herbs such as lemongrass, kaffir lime, galangal, chilies, mint, and basil.

Our guests are taught how to harvest food and cook in the same manner in which generations of Thai cooks learned.

Imagine
  • Learning how to prepare authentic Thai food from scratch using traditional tools, the real Thai way
  • Understanding how Thai food is connected to Thai culture, tradition and family

  • Getting a glimpse of how Thai people live
  • Having the opportunity to cook with a Thai family
  • Staying at Prem Residences, the newest member of Mom Tri’s accommodations, on the nature filled campus of Prem
In our four-day immersion classes you will:

  • Visit traditional Thai markets where Thai cooks and families buy their ingredients to purchase ingredients for our classes
  • Be a guest of Thai families who live in rural villages near our farm to see their traditional kitchen, to cook with them and to prepare alms trays before walking to make merit at the local temple

Testimonials

The Three Generation Cooking Academy has an incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and approachable staff who speak very good English and who strike an excellent balance of instruction versus hands-on practice

I really enjoyed hearing stories throughout the day about traditional and village living and how cooking and eating are central to all of life. I really gained an appreciation for the generations of knowledge that go into each meal

FAQ's

What is the best way to get to Chiang Mai?
Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX) is the major gateway to the scenic beauty and rich culture of northern Thailand. Nine airlines service the airport.

How do I get to Three Generation Community for Learning?
Whether you have been staying in Chiang Mai or are just flying in, transportation to and from Three Generation Community for Learning is included in the price of the class. We will arrange for our vans to pick you up at the airport or your hotel.

What should I wear?

What will the weather be like when I am there?
Chiang Mai's climate is tropical but cooler and less humid than elsewhere in Thailand, and all seasons make for a great stay. Chiang Mai's average annual temperature is a pleasant 25 degrees C (77 degrees F). Click here for more details on Chiang Mai weather.

Can you offer any advice on dialing long distance to Thailand?

What level of cooking expertise is required?
The programs and menus are suitable for both beginners, experienced recreational cooks, and professional chefs.

How much cooking is involved and what is the daily schedule?
The daily schedule varies from class to class; see the sample itineraries here. In each four-day class we prepare 3 lunches and 1 dinner. The cooking/instruction time for most of those meals is approximately 3 hours. In each one-day class, we prepare 1 lunch, and the class typically runs from 7 am until 2 pm.

If I add my name to the waiting list, what are the chances I will get in?
There are occasional cancellations, but by their nature those are completely unpredictable. The length of the waiting list is no indicator of your chances of actually getting into a full class. Flexibility to travel on short notice and luck are more important.

Do you offer half-day or day classes? Yes, we can customize a half or full day cooking class during your stay in Chiang Mai. Contact us for more information.

What activities are available for my spouse or partner who is not participating in the classes?
The answer depends on the partner's interest. There are many options available at Three Generation Community for Learning: golf, tennis, swimming, mountain biking, and trekking. Transportation into the city center can also be arranged for shopping. Please contact us for more detailed information.

Can my (non participating) spouse or partner come to meals with the group?
A non participating spouse or partner will be welcome to join the group at his or her expense. Prices will vary based on restaurant and amount of food and beverage ordered.

Lodging for our four day immersion classes is included in the price. If you are taking a customised one-or two-day class and would like to stay in Prem accommodation, please click here.

How can I determine the exchange rate between the dollar and THB?

We will accommodate one class transfer to any available class with an opening. All transfers are subject to a USD 250 service charge per student.

What is your cancellation policy?
The class deposit is a commitment by the Three Generation Cooking Academy to hold your place in the class, and a commitment by you to participate. The deposit should be considered nonrefundable. However, we may refund the deposit if you cancel more than 60 days before the class begins and we are able to find another student to fill your place. All refunds are subject to a USD 150 service charge per student to cover bank and processing fees.

All refunds for cancellations that occur within 60 days of the class start date, both the deposit and the final payment, will be handled by your personal travel insurance.
